Worker Designation – This role is hybrid. This means you will be expected to report to one of our Aflac offices located in Columbia, SC for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership.

What does it take to be successful in this role?

  • Broad knowledge of the insurance industry, including theory, application, products, processes, and terminology
  • Ability to interpret complex language in state insurance laws and regulations
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of NAIC Model Laws and Regulations
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Aflac’s policy language, products, benefits, and limitations, functional area systems and procedures
  • Proficiency in editing and proofreading; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, health care management, or a related field
  • 6 years of job-related work experience
  • 4 years of experience working with compliance/regulatory issues and agencies

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Education & Experience Preferred

  • AHIP or LOMA designation
  • PLADS product knowledge/experience (Life, Absence and/or Disability)

 

Travel

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison and subject matter expert to proactively address the needs of Aflac’s Product Compliance; provides immediate resolution with regard to compliance-related issues; monitors and reviews progress and accuracy of work; evaluates results, directs efforts, and provides technical guidance on more complex issues and makes performance recommendations to management; provides training and guidance to less experienced analysts; acts on behalf of the manager during his/her absence
  • Acts as the Core Product team subject matter expert assisting management with coordinating workflow and leading, directing and guiding projects; works with various teams, internal and external customers across divisions on projects or issues; serves as project leader for projects of medium to large scale; works independently to interpret, monitor and report compliance issues within a broad area of responsibility; coordinates support of new product rollout including the design, implementation and filing processes including product filings to state DOI’s  
  • Monitors adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements; reviews documents within area of responsibility to ensure that content is in compliance with company, state, and regulatory agency standards and guidelines; coordinates the implementation of new laws and regulations with business units; communicates with state insurance departments to resolve issues, answer questions, and/or clarify interpretation of laws, regulations, and advertising filings or potential changes in business practices
  • Acts as a SME for Product Development on forms and coverage questions, regarding forms content, forms meaning, and product organization; serves as the point of contact for standard and customized plans; coordinates support of new product rollout including the design, implementation and filing processes for product filings to state DOI’s; responsible for the creation of standard and custom fulfillment issue forms and serves as the primary identifier of forms for plan and product ID’s; coordinates maintenance filings to revise and update existing products; integrates product naming conventions across standard and custom forms; assists in the enhancement of information for management, reporting and processes
  • Participates and serves as a subject matter expert in meetings and conference calls coordinating related short and long term projects as needed; resolves issues, answers questions, and /or clarifies meaning of laws and regulations; reports findings or potential changes in business practices to affected department and management; works with team members to determine any impact
  • Operates with substantial latitude for independent action or decision making while recommending sound internal control practices, and consistent interpretation and implementation of compliance policies and standards; assists management in establishing sound internal control practices and consistent interpretation and implementation of Compliance policy and standards across the organization; drives an awareness and understanding of and monitors adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and Compliance processes to ensure that the appropriate control environment is documented and tracked; provides input on various committees (product, claims review, business process, etc.)
  • Performs other related duties as required

 

Total Rewards

The salary range for this job is $80,000 to $115,000. This range is specific to the job and salary offers consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.

 

At Aflac, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role to allow for future and continued salary growth, and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
