Job Summary

Under direct supervision, assists with actuarial work focused on product development and pricing of dental and vision products; develops an understanding of the business and the departmental and company goals.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Performs actuarial tasks using extensive knowledge of mathematics and business principles while learning Pricing, Valuation, Financial Reporting, Business Planning, Capital Modeling, and/or Experience Analysis/Management concepts; conducts fact gathering and claims analysis; reviews and analyzes statistical data, including morbidity, mortality and termination experience, documentation, trend analysis, actuarial research; develops pricing and valuation models 
  • Work is focused on Product Development and Pricing of Dental & Vision products 
  • Performs statistical analysis related to claims, persistency, and utilization 
  • Develops assumptions necessary for the development of product pricing 
  • Learns and executes pricing analysis via MG-Alfa 
  • Prepares financial analyses and income statements 
  • Reviews contest/incentive designs in order to gauge risk and estimate financial impact 
  • Develops stress tests and scenario tests necessary to evaluate actuarial problems 
  • Ensures methods and processes are documented for reference 
  • Reviews book of business in order to assess profitability and expense recovery 
  • Compiles and categorizes data for experience analyses and prepares related reports; prepares schedules of statistics, financial statements, premiums, reserves and benefits, documenting and verifying the factors used in related computations; incumbent is instructed on all assignments and refers any question or problem to more experienced personnel 
  • Performs other duties as required

 

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree actuarial science, mathematics, economics, finance, engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • completion of one Society of Actuaries (SOA) exam and commitment to completing exams leading to an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation
  • currently a candidate in or qualified to become a candidate in the Aflac Actuarial Development Program
  • zero to one year of professional job-related work experience

 

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Job Knowledge & Skills 

  • Intermediate knowledge and skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Access 
  • Programming experience and skills in any language preferred 
  • Experience with MG-Afla or similar software preferred 
  • Basic accounting skills preferred 
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills to effectively interact with team mates and all levels of management
