Work Designation. Depending on your location within the continental US, this role may be hybrid or remote.

  • If you live within 50 miles of the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be hybrid. This means you will be expected to work in the office for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership. 
  • If you live more than 50 miles from the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be remote. This means you will be expected to work from your home, within the continental US. If the role is remote, there may be occasions that you are requested to come to the office based on business need. Any requests to come to the office would be communicated with you in advance.

  • Proficiency in Business Acumen, Quality Management, Basic Products and Services, Application Design, Architecture, Advanced Application Development Tools, Application Testing, Business Process Modeling, Advanced Emerging Technologies, Hardware Infrastructure, Network and Internet Security.

 

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree Information Technology, Math or other quantitative subject areas
  • 5+ years in application development
  • 10+ years of Group Life/Disability product experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development of processes and leads the implementation of systems and process improvements in infrastructure, architecture, ensuring IT solutions align with medium-term business objectives and looking ahead to understand future technology options for the business

 

  • Provides technical guidance and recommendations as a subject matter expert in relevant area of IT, in order to support the resolution of the most complex customer cases and develop precedents to improve customer service

 

  • Manages key internal and external stakeholder relationships across the organization in order to achieve engagement to change, and provides technical leadership in the design and development of new IT solutions

 

  • Ensures that IT requirements in own area of specialty are properly addressed in projects, and ensures delivery of assigned IT projects or work streams are successful, collaborating with IT colleagues from across the wider function to deliver for the business

 

  • Deploys in-depth knowledge in a functional area of IT to support internal clients by responding to requests and issues, acting within a number of complex processes and procedures to solve internal customer problems in conjunction with internal partners or external vendors

 

  • Understands customers’ processes and products and how they fit within the goals of the function or business unit

 

  • Engages with the solution architect in the reviews and validation of the detailed technical design for business applications provided by the supplier to ensure alignment with business requirements; validates suppliers estimates

 

  • Estimates Rough Order of Magnitude for the level of effort/cost of new application functionality

 

  • Performs quality review checks on project deliverables

 

  • Supports, reviews, and validates the documentation of functional specifications

 

  • Makes recommendations for application performance improvements and de-commissioning

 

  • Acts as liaison between Business and IT, as assigned

 

  • Supports the Portfolio Manager in building the Business Case, including cost / benefit analysis, risk assessment, project scope, and development of a high-level plan

 

  • Supports the implementation activities, troubleshooting system environmental issues and providing training as required

 

  • Performs impact analysis of application changes across various components holding an end-to-end view of the system

 

  • Specifies / recommends Integration and Parallel testing criteria

 

  • Takes responsibility for the conceptual design of business applications

 

  • Identifies complex root cause of an issue within an application in support of application incidents

 

  • Works with business stakeholders, colleagues across the wider IT function and cross-functionally to translate business objectives into clearly defined business cases, costs, or financial schedules in order to support achievement of IT and business accountabilities

 

  • Analyzes key themes from a wide range of internal and external data sources in order to identify IT industry developments as well as how different scenarios may impact upon the business, and provides recommendations based on this analysis

 

  • Creates Disaster Recovery and Business Change plans in relevant area of IT, and inputs into wider Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning and policy

 

  • Performs other related duties as required

 

Total Rewards

The salary range for this job is $125,000 - $165,000. This range is specific to the job and salary offers consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.

 

At Aflac, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role to allow for future and continued salary growth, and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
