Worker Designation – This role is hybrid. This means you will be expected to report to one of our Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership.

What does it take to be successful in this role?

  • Combination of business knowledge and an in-depth knowledge of insurance compliance concepts, statutes, and regulations 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of insurance industry theory and application, including products, processes, and terminology, and the ability to interpret complex language in state insurance laws and regulations 
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, local and industry regulatory publication requirements, standard concepts, practices, and procedures as they relate to the insurance industry, marketing, and advertising 
  • Extensive knowledge and a thorough understanding of Aflac products, policy language, benefits, and limitations 
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and the ability to collaborate with management of other divisions to reach a common agreement

 

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree management, business administration, health care management, or a related field 
  • six years of professional job-related work experience 
  • four years of experience in a leadership/senior professional/supervisory capacity 

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily operations of the department and provides leadership and development for employee teams; develops solutions and implements action steps to ensure insurance regulatory compliance 
  • Manages the tracking and implementation of new, changing and existing state and federal insurance laws and regulations that impact Aflac; partners with the business unit risk and compliance teams to ensure information is disseminated throughout the organization 
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to provide clear interpretation of applicable insurance regulations for the Aflac business units and partners in the development of necessary implementation plans 
  • Partners closely with State and Federal Government Relations, the Legal Division and the Aflac business units with respect to the development, establishment and enforcement of processes and procedures necessary to implement required regulations, as well as to create and maintain a “closed-loop” accountability system; proactively communicates with all parties in establishing accountability 
  • Manages business unit compliance audits that are conducted for processes and procedures after implementation of changes resulting from new or changing insurance laws and regulations or market conduct exam findings; ensures thorough reviews are performed of the assigned areas and items reviewed may include transactions, documents, records, and automated functions, reviewing for accuracy, adequate control, and operational efficiency; ensures documentation of audit findings for further analysis and review; develops appropriate document formats (e.g., reports, spreadsheets, graphs, etc.) as needed to report findings; audits/monitors after implementation of any corrective action needed resulting from the audit to ensure compliance 
  • Partners with internal Compliance teams to maintain relevant databases, and serves as a referral source for information on any insurance regulatory changes 
  • Advises on relevant policies, procedures and activities required for Aflac to operate in accordance with the governing federal and state insurance regulations; provides specialized expertise and governance in operational risk and compliance 
  • Leads Compliance projects and/or the development of specific Compliance processes associated with the operational risk and internal controls that have a substantial impact on department and/or the organization; partners with key leadership to develop effective controls 
  • Establishes and monitors processes and controls to ensure the effective and efficient flow of information and responsibilities between various teams within the division and departments; works to ensure that all necessary support is in place 
  • Partners with the company training department and business area compliance and risk teams with regards to the dissemination of insurance compliance-related education and training 
  • Reviews and interprets performance against operating plans and standards for the division; provides information and reports to subordinates on interpretation of results and approves changes in plans; presents monthly reports on performance, develops and presents matters requiring decisions to the key management team for the division 
  • Develops an organizational framework and provides the necessary leadership to ensure the ongoing availability of a qualified and motivated staff to meet current needs and planned future growth 
  • Performs other related duties as required

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.  Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $185,000.
