Aflac Asset Management, LLC, (d.b.a. The investment teams support GI’s overall goals and objectives by implementing, managing, and overseeing multiple portfolios encompassing different strategies across various fixed income and growth asset classes utilizing both internal teams of analysts, portfolio managers, and traders and external third party asset managers.  GI utilizes a rigorous approach to deploying and managing assets driven by a disciplined strategic asset allocation which establishes portfolio parameters based on long term expectations for performance.

Position Summary

Within Aflac’s Global Investments (GI) division, work as a key member of Global Data Governance to collaborate on the design, development, implementation and maintenance of the data management and operational governance of systematic workflow.  This position requires expertise in finance, data management and/or data analytics, with the ability to reason, recommend, and gain compromises that enhance the value of Global Investments’ data assets. This position also provides oversight of the day-to-day data management responsibilities and adherence to Global Data Governance guidelines, policies, and procedures.  In addition to the daily responsibilities described below, the Data Analyst will also work on data analytics projects, and help to support communications with Japan data management colleagues and other key stakeholders (Investment Compliance, Trading, Risk, Portfolio Management, and Investment Accounting) to foster a more efficient work-stream.  The Data Analyst, in support of the overall trading workflow, will also deliver second-line data management and analytics for investments and investment-related activities in Aflac’s subsidiary, Aflac Asset Management LLC (AAMLLC) and Aflac Asset Management of Japan.

Reports to:  Vice President, Data Governance and Management

Primary Relationships: GI Data Governance, GI Trade Operations, Private Asset Operations, GI Investment Technology, GI Investment Compliance, GI Trading, GI Risk, GI Portfolio Management, GI Investment Accounting, GI Japan, and other key stakeholders.

 

Overall Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on the technical development and maintenance of the data management system production and data environment, including providing support for the development and automation of workflows specific to maintenance, governance, and integrity of data sources (internal and external) as it relates to all portfolios (internal and external). Support the team’s objectives by liaising with different GI departments.
  • Create a collection of common business definitions.
  • Check daily reports on Security and Pricing and working to resolve the exceptions.
  • Ensure that the data management of internal subsystems (data warehouses) is accurate and error-free.  Work with internal stakeholders to evaluate and elevate the operational requirements to support existing and new investment instruments and account types.  Confirm data and market analytics through various investment and third party systems managers.
  • Collaborate on the technical development and maintenance of the data management system production and data environment, including providing support for the development and automation of workflows specific to maintenance, governance, and integrity of data sources (internal and external) as it relates to all portfolios (internal and external).
  • Perform business analysis with technology, create a collection of common business (data management) definitions, and identify data requirements as department needs arise.
  • Establish and maintain the data management policy and key operating procedures, ensure data quality by developing data standards, and write data business requirements for Information Technology to automate data processes.
  • Stay abreast of developing techniques and regulations to ensure operational risk is current and update the operational procedural documents accordingly.
  • Reference data setup in Aladdin, Code Red, and other business systems.
  • Research and resolve all market or portfolio data errors while looking for ways to maintain an error-free data environment.  This includes, but not limited to, security, position, and pricing reports. 
  • Define, develop, or improve data flow and processes based on business needs.
  • Collaborate on the advancement of investment data management reports for senior management and business partners.
  • Assist in identifying gaps in procedural documentation and making the necessary updates.
  • Work with Japan Data Governance along with Japan Operations teams as necessary to help communicate global workflows, and act as liaison with internal/external business partners.

 

Candidate Qualifications 

  • B.A./B.S. degree in finance, business, economics, or similar quantitative disciplines.
  • 7 years of direct financial services experience (ideally as an insurance asset manager with a focus on data and business analytics).  Internships will be considered as a part of work experience.    
  • Knowledge of statistics and its application to the financial services industry.
  • Working experience and understanding of public and private fixed income asset classes, public and private equities, real estate, middle market loans, infrastructure debt, alternatives, derivatives, and other private securities assets. Direct experience in data/security, currency, and derivatives.
  • Strong experience in MS Excel with knowledge of VBA is a plus.  Working knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. 
  • Demonstrated working experience with Aladdin, Bloomberg, Jira, Confluence, or other trading systems platforms.  Code Red is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of data governance platforms (Collibra, Informantica, Alation, etc.), and databases (ANSI-SQL) is a plus.
  • Superior analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated experience deploying technical work into business workflows offering efficiency while minimizing errors.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise fashion (both written and oral).  Good presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work in a fluid environment.  The ability to complete tasks independently, yet interact in a team environment.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to work independently on multiple projects with different/competing deadlines independently.

 

The range on this positions is:   $68,000 to $175,000

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.  Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
