As of year-end 2024, Aflac’s total general account portfolio was approximately $100 billion.
The investment teams support GI’s overall goals and objectives by providing market insight and in-depth knowledge of assigned asset classes. GI oversees the strategic deployment of capital for life and supplemental health insurance company balance sheets utilizing both internal teams and external third party asset managers.
Summary of Role
We are seeking a Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager who also has developed accounting and financial skills to join Aflac Global Investment’s (GI’s) Finance Team. The team seeks to drive value for Aflac and its insurance companies general account assets through new and/or adjacent investment strategies focused on the development and execution of a multi-year corporate business plan as it relates to the accounting practices; financial analysis, financial forecasting and cost proposals, budget vs/ actuals, financial modeling for an insurance asset management firm. The FP&A Manager will be a key contributor within the GI organization and will have the opportunity to collaborate with investment leaders and their teams across U.S. and Japan; including public and private credit, alternatives, trading, analytics, legal, compliance, human resources, ESG integration, risk management, along with corporate business partners. The FP&A Manager will also work with staff in Aflac Inc., Aflac US and Aflac’s Japan insurance asset management subsidiary (AAMJ), which has primary investment and asset management responsibility for Aflac’s Japan insurance company.
Candidate Profile
The candidate will have demonstrated work experience working with an investment team in a global financial institution as a as a financial analysis and planning, accountant, or similar role. The candidate will also have experience in U.S. GAAP, SSAP, SEC, IRS and other regulatory standards, audits, accounting systems, along with best practices and procedures. The candidate will be a team-oriented person with strong critical thinking, quantitative and analytical skills and agility to work effectively with management, business partners and peers.
Key Relationships
Reports to: Vice President, Head of FP&A at Aflac Global Investments
Primary Internal Relationships: Finance team, Business Intelligence, Portfolio Managers, Trading, Operations, and other investment professionals across GI platform; Compliance, Human Resources, Investment Risk, IT, Legal, along with other GI business leaders. In addition, Investment Accounting, Reporting, Tax, Rating Agency Relations, Treasury, Legal, ERM and other key Aflac business partners
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Supports the Global Investments leadership team in the development and execution of multi-year corporate business plans; and provides rigorous and disciplined financial analysis, modeling and valuation for corporate strategies in support of corporate planning and business development, including review and analysis of major business initiatives – which includes existing and new investment asset classes (Fixed Income, Public, Private, Alternatives and Growth Assets)
- Works with senior management in developing the company’s annual financial planning processes, corporate consolidations, coordination of design and testing changes to various financial models; works with division management to provide and gather relevant information for the planning process; prepares financial forecasts and cost proposals; works with division representatives to resolve financial issues
- Supports variance reporting on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, including actual to budget and actual to forecast comparisons; develops and prepares forecast models to analyze trends for various lines of business and investment strategies; and conducts other special financial and business studies as requested
- Collects, organizes, analyzes, and evaluates moderately complex financial and statistical data and other related information; completes quantitative and qualitative reviews and prepares required internal and external records, reports, statistics, financial statements, analyses, stockholders’ reports, etc.; develops and presents conclusions and recommendations to management; participates on project teams or committees assisting with the development and implementation of goals and objectives aimed at enhancing customer service, process improvement, and resource management
- In accordance with established policies and procedures, interprets and applies laws and regulations; acts in an advisory capacity working with division management and/or designated representatives providing guidance and direction on and clarifying interpretation of the accounting procedures, policies, and practices of the company and various regulatory authorities
- Identifies and resolves accounting and financial account and/or transaction discrepancies, and provides detailed explanations for variances between actual and planned activities; maintains complete and accurate regulatory filings; assists with developing, analyzing, and implementing accounting procedures in a systems environment in conformance with GAAP, SSAP, SEC, IRS, and other regulatory standards; audits and evaluates systems and procedures effectiveness, and confirms the consistent application of accounting pronouncements and policies
- Supports internal corporate accounting and reporting functions and the financial month-end close process for all expenses and cash flow, including reconciliations, and income statement reporting
- Reports, analyzes, and interprets financial and operating data, including financial statements, cost-volume-profit analysis, cost-benefit analyses, performance assessments, vendor contracts and proposals; participates in the preparation and compilation of the annual financial plan
- Reconciles balance sheet accounts and explains balance fluctuations; prepares updates, progress and variance reports, and other ad hoc reports for management reporting
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with business partners, and state and federal agencies; stays abreast of current trends and regulatory changes in the industry; conducts benchmarking activities with other companies and organizations within and outside the industry and recommends alternative business practices, procedures, solutions and strategies based on best practice research; assists senior team members in developing and implementing new applications and analytical models, or enhancing existing systems

Candidate Qualifications
The qualified candidate will have credible experience and available references demonstrating the following attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and nine years of corporate-level accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree is a welcomed plus.
- Experience in investment accounting is preferred
- Accounting experience in the insurance industry is preferred – working directly for an investment firm is ideal
- Global experience is strongly preferred
- CPA, CFA or CMA certification is preferred
- Experience working with various investment asset classes; Fixed Income (required), Public, Private, Alternatives, and Growth Assets (welcomed)
- Knowledge of the functions and use of SAP, or similar software, and its application
- Broad knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SEC, and other federal regulations, Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP), state insurance department statutes, and other state regulations, with an emphasis on insurance and/or investment accounting; working knowledge of JGAAP is welcomed plus.
- Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and financial systems user applications (SAP preferred), including input/output processing and complex system concepts
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience performing complex financial analysis and related valuation methodologies, systems and quantitative business-based analysis, metrics, and experimental designs
- Ability to understand and use computer systems and application tools for analysis
- Ability to prepare statistical studies and trend analysis using internal and external information to demonstrate relevant changes and recommend improvements or solutions

The range on this positions is: $68,000 to $175,000
This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
