Summary of Role

We are seeking a Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Analyst with experience in financial forecasting, management reporting, and process improvement experience to join Aflac Global Investment’s (GI’s) Finance team.  The team seeks to drive value for Aflac and its insurance companies general account assets through new and/or adjacent investment strategies focused on the development and execution of a multi-year corporate business plan as it relates to the financial forecasting/planning, financial analysis, and reporting for an insurance asset management firm.

 

The FP&A Analyst will be a key contributor within the GI organization and will have the opportunity to collaborate with investment leaders and their teams across U.S. and Japan; including public and private credit, alternatives, trading, analytics, legal, compliance, human resources, ESG integration, risk management, along with corporate business partners.  The FP&A Analyst will also work with staff in Aflac Inc., Aflac US and Aflac’s Japan insurance asset management subsidiary (AAMJ), which has primary investment and asset management responsibility for Aflac’s Japan insurance company. 

 

Candidate Profile 

The candidate should have demonstrated experience in a global financial institution in FP&A.  The ideal candidate would be a team-oriented individual with a combination of technical skills, critical thinking, quantitative/analytical skills, and agility to work effectively with management, business partners, and team members.  The candidate should also have experience in evaluating forecasting and reporting processes and collaborating across teams to develop iterative and transformational improvements with various stakeholders such as the CIO team, Accounting, Quantitative Analysts, IT, and Data Governance.  The candidate should be able to demonstrate strong attention to detail while investigating and reconciling large financial data sets. The FP&A team operates on a lean scale, so the candidate must have strong time management skills as s/he will be working on multiple processes and projects on a regular basis.

 

Ideal candidate experience would include smaller-scale but impactful changes to financial planning processes through the use of automation tools (i.e. Alteryx, Power Automate, Power Query), standardization of templates and large data sets, and integrating other best practices throughout the forecasting cycle.

Primary Internal Relationships:  GI FP&A team members, GI CFO, US CIO team, GI IT, GI Data Governance, GI Quantitative Analytic Solutions team, Japan Investment Planning team, GI business leaders and staff, business partners including Corporate and US FP&A, Investment Accounting, Treasury.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supports the Global Investments leadership team in the development and execution of multi-year financial plans; provides rigorous and disciplined actuals vs. budget, forecasting, financial analysis, modeling and develop into valuation of major business initiatives – which includes existing and new investment asset classes (Fixed Income, Public, Private, Alternatives and Growth Assets)
  • Works with team members and stakeholders in developing the company’s annual financial planning processes, Global Investments consolidations, coordination of design and testing changes to various financial models; works with division stakeholders to provide and gather relevant information for the planning process; prepares financial forecasts; works with division representatives to resolve financial issues; collaborate closely with stakeholders in building accurate and comprehensive assumptions to be reflected in financial forecasts and plan
  • Supports variance reporting on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, including actual to plan and actual to forecast comparisons; develops and prepares forecast models to analyze trends for various lines of business and investment strategies; and conducts other special financial and business studies as requested
  • Collaborate with senior FP&A while supporting the efforts of collects, organizes, analyzes, and evaluates simple to moderate financial and statistical data and other related information; completes quantitative and qualitative reviews and prepares required internal and external records, reports, statistics, financial statements, analyses, etc.; develops and presents conclusions and recommendations to management; participates on project teams or committees assisting with the development and implementation of goals and objectives aimed at enhancing customer service, process improvement, and resource management
  • Identifies and resolves accounting and financial account and/or transaction discrepancies, and provides detailed explanations for variances between actual and planned activities; maintains complete and accurate regulatory filings; assists with developing, analyzing, and implementing accounting procedures in a systems environment in conformance with GAAP, STAT, and other regulatory standards; audits and evaluates systems and procedures effectiveness, and confirms the consistent application of accounting pronouncements and policies
  • Reports, analyzes, and interprets financial and operating data, including financial statements, cost-volume-profit analysis, performance assessments, vendor contracts and proposals; participates in the preparation and compilation of the annual financial plan
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts and explains balance fluctuations; prepares updates, progress and variance reports, and other ad hoc reports for management reporting
  • Assist team in automation and standardization of financial modeling and reporting processes through the use of standardizing large data sets and templates, automation tools, and implementing best practices.
  • Performs other duties as required


Candidate Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have credible experience and available references demonstrating the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of corporate-level finance experience; financial planning and forecasting experience in the insurance industry is preferred – experience in investments is preferred and global experience is strongly welcomed
  • CPA, CFA or CMA certification is a plus
  • Experience working with various investment asset classes welcomed; Fixed Income, Public, Private, Alternatives, and Growth Assets
  • Experience in implementing financial planning and automation tools, i.e. EPBCS, Anaplan, Planful, Alteryx, is preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of SAP suite (or similar) is preferred
  • Broad knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting with an emphasis on insurance; working knowledge of JGAAP is welcomed plus.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience performing complex financial analysis and related valuation methodologies, systems and quantitative business-based analysis, metrics
  • Ability to understand and use computer systems and application tools for analysis

 

Please note: Aflac Global Investments' hybrid working environment requires a minimum of 3 days in the office each week

 

 

The range on this positions is:   $56,000 - $132,000

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.  Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
