Aflac Asset Management, LLC, (d.b.a. The investment teams support GI’s overall goals and objectives by implementing, managing, and overseeing multiple portfolios encompassing different strategies across various fixed income and growth asset classes utilizing both internal teams of analysts, portfolio managers, and traders and external third party asset managers.  GI utilizes a rigorous approach to deploying and managing assets driven by a disciplined strategic asset allocation which establishes portfolio parameters based on long term expectations for performance.

Summary of Role

We are seeking a Portfolio Analyst to join Aflac Global Investment’s (GI’s) Credit Team.  The Credit Team has responsibility for managing public and private credit investments on behalf of Aflac’s $100bn of general account assets in the United States and Japan.  The Portfolio Analyst will support the Credit Team in providing investment reporting, portfolio analysis, and maintaining in-depth knowledge related to assets managed by the Credit Team.  The Portfolio Analyst will be a key member and contributor within GI’s Credit Team and will have the opportunity to collaborate with global investment leaders and their teams across GI including trading, legal, compliance, ESG integration, financial planning, quantitative analytic solutions and risk management.     

 

 

Candidate Profile

The candidate will have demonstrated experience supporting an investment team in a global financial institution; alternatively, the candidate should be capable of presentation skills from an internship or similar work experience.  The candidate will also have experience in sourcing, aggregating, and analyzing investment-related data and have the capability to conduct portfolio analysis and reporting for the Credit Team and GI management.  The candidate will have basic knowledge of fixed income investments and investment accounting principles.  The candidate will be a team-oriented person with strong critical thinking, quantitative and analytical skills, strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and agility to work effectively with management, business partners and peers.

Reports to: Global Head of Credit, with secondary report to the Head of Business Intelligence

 

Primary Internal Relationships: Credit Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts, Japan Credit Team, GI business leaders and staff across front, middle and back offices; GI Risk, Aflac business leaders and staff in Investment Accounting and Reporting, Tax, Financial Planning & Analysis, Rating Agency Relations, Treasury, Legal, ERM and other key Aflac business partners

 

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The portfolio analyst will support the Credit Team in the remit of their responsibilities and activities.

  • Conduct continuous monitoring of portfolio activity, and proactively manage portfolio analytical and reporting functions that are critical to the Credit Team ensuring accurate and timely information delivered in a manner consistent with world-class investment decisions.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on credit portfolio performance for investment committees and other governing bodies across the organization.  Assume responsibility for accuracy and timely delivery of information as required by the team’s reporting functions.
  • Build partnership with other teams in GI, including Trading, Legal and Compliance, Operations, IT, Accounting, and Risk Management in all locations globally.  Perpetuate a high-performance culture of teamwork and collegiality focused on achieving world class results.
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget, including ongoing refinement to ensure alignment with strategic objectives
  • Develop credit analysis skills working with senior analysts and by participating in investment committees
  • Assist in optimizing processes and technology, driving automation of portfolio analytics and reporting, using programming (SQL / Python / VBA)
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a robust data warehouse, with business rules and definitions, to ensure data integrity across reporting and analytics.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses as required, including cross-sectional special projects

 

Candidate Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have credible experience and available references demonstrating the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Accounting or related field; advanced degree in similar field of study preferred.  CFA or equivalent professional qualifications a welcomed plus
  • 2+ years of experience in an investment support role, preferably in an institutional investment environment; will consider recent graduates if the candidate presents skills from an internship or similar work experience
  • Experience working with Bloomberg, Aladdin, and other market data tools
  • Basic knowledge of fixed income investments and investment accounting principles
  • Demonstrated strong critical thinking, quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS suites. Capable of sourcing, managing and assembling data from multiple databases for ad hoc analysis, formal projects and reporting; proficiency in SQL / Python / VBA preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver high quality work product under tight deadlines when necessary
  • Proven ability to execute on goals, prioritize and work with management and teams to meet deadlines
  • Exceptional attention to details and commitment to accuracy
  • Skilled in working and collaborating in multi-functional team environment, notable if across time zones and cultures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

 

The range on this positions is:   $56,000 - $132,000

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.  Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
