Work Designation – Depending on your location within the continental US, this role may be hybrid or remote.

  • If you live within 50 miles of the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be hybrid. This means you will be expected to work in the office for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership. 
  • If you live more than 50 miles from the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be remote. This means you will be expected to work from your home, within the continental US. If the role is remote, there may be occasions that you are requested to come to the office based on business need. Any requests to come to the office would be communicated with you in advance.

What does it take to be successful in this role?

• Advanced proficiency level using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access software applications with VBA/macro experience preferred

 

• Knowledge and experience with SAP, BW, Workiva and/or similar accounting/financial software

 

• Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), with an emphasis on insurance accounting and/or investment accounting

 

• Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of accounting and financial systems user applications (SAP preferred), including input/output processing and complex system concepts, and ability to understand and use computer systems and application tools for analysis

 

• Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience performing financial analysis, reporting, and/or process improvement

 

• Demonstrated competencies in the areas of consulting, change management, quality and project management

 

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree In accounting, finance or a related field
  • Six years of professional job-related work experience in investments or related accounting/reporting
  • Experience managing projects or implementation of continuous improvement initiatives

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Education & Experience Preferred

  • CFA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent training and certification

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs SOX testing and ensures SOX documentation is maintained and updated timely for the department in order to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley

 

• Analyzes and researches how to account for new investment vehicles

 

• Ensures that the Investments general accounting activities are completed entirely, accurately and in a timely manner

 

• Interprets, analyzes, and implements new FASB and SSAP regulations concerning their relevance to the Investment Department, along with collaborating with the Accounting Policy team to determine appropriate treatment

 

• Acts in a senior capacity delegating assignments to, reviewing and approving the work of, and providing advice and direction to junior team members

 

• Proactively identifies improvements and makes recommendations which may have an important bearing on management’s decisions and performance of the team

 

• Assists the team and analyzes complex investment data and information; completes quantitative and qualitative reviews and prepares required internal and external records, reports, statistics, SEC and stockholders’ reports, etc.; develops and presents conclusions and recommendations to management

 

• Leads or participates on project teams or committees assisting with the development, planning, and implementation of strategic long-range and short-range goals and objectives and continuous improvement

 

• Leads or participates in the accounting and reporting of real estate owned (REOs) investments

 

• Identifies and resolves transaction discrepancies and provides detailed explanations for variances between actual and planned activity; maintains complete and accurate regulatory filings

 

• Develops, analyzes and implements accounting procedures in a systems environment in conformance with applicable accounting requirements in collaboration with Japan Investment Accounting, Investment Tax, and system support IT teams to ensure processes and systems set up are optimized and accurate for all bases of accounting needed

 

• Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with business partners as their key point of contact in certain areas

 

• Works with Investment Accounting leadership in tracking the progress made on departmental goals

 

• Maintains and ensures a continuous improvement culture by developing and tracking KPIs with the team, developing recommendations for improvement, executing those recommendations, and driving the effectiveness of daily huddle meetings

 

• Develops and maintains reports to enhance reporting requirements

 

• Performs other duties as required, such as, but not limited to, assisting other areas of investment accounting as a result of turnover/other project needs

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.  Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate. The salary range for this position is $72,000 to $167,000.
