Worker Designation – This role is a remote role. This means you will be expected to work from your home, within the continental US. If the role is remote, there may be occasions that you are requested to come to the office based on business need. Any requests to come to the office would be communicated with you in advance.

What does it take to be successful in this role?
• Broad knowledge of management concepts, operating principles, and methodologies applicable to client relationship management and risk management; a high degree of skill in applying this knowledge to the analysis and resolution of very complex or sensitive operational issues
• Advanced and in-depth knowledge of Group Life, Disability, & Leave Underwriting
• Experience building and implementing key strategies
• Demonstrated technical knowledge and multi-level leadership skills reflective of a practitioner who has been operating at a senior underwriting leadership level or manager role
• Ability to apply new developments and methodologies to direct the improvement in efficiencies
• Strong project management, leadership, and practice development skills
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor's Degree business administration, finance, or a related field
- 10 years of experience in Group Life and Disability Underwriting
- 5 years of management experience
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
• Directs the underwriting of benefit products including Life, Absence and Disability; assesses management and group benefit risks with understanding of what makes for profitable business, clearly understands all of the complex technical issues for the line of business
• Analyzes accounts, determining terms and conditions on a case-by-case basis; provides guidance and coaching to the field in the negotiations for the account; works in conjunction with underwriting team and sales personnel to develop financially sound quotations for new and renewal business
• Formulates strategies, plans, policies, and procedures based on operational analysis to maximize current operations or to plan for large-scale operational changes; analyzes technology uses in terms of manpower requirements, finding best mix in terms of short-term cost, long-term operating effects and plans, service quality, and output requirements
• Investigates and introduces process improvement measures; develops innovative initiatives and assists in planning and execution to enhance internal efficiency and effectiveness, profitability, and productivity
• Stays abreast of current trends in underwriting practices, functional operations, and technology; directs and appraises performance of all operational functions for the departments; participates in key management activities and committees; maintains appropriate communications within area of responsibility, advising division senior management accordingly
• Establishes and monitors processes and controls to ensure the effective and efficient flow of information and responsibilities between various teams within the division and departments; works to ensure that all necessary support is in place
• Contributes to the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, strategies, special analyses, reporting capabilities, and reviews of rating practices and achieves the company goals that contribute to meeting corporate objectives
• Develops an organizational framework and provides the necessary leadership to ensure the ongoing availability of a qualified and motivated staff to meet current needs and planned future growth
• Performs other related duties as required
Total Rewards
The salary range for this job is $125,000 to $180,000. This range is specific to the job and salary offers consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.
At Aflac, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role to allow for future and continued salary growth, and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
