Work Designation. Depending on your location within the continental US, this role may be hybrid or remote.
- If you live within 50 miles of the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be hybrid. This means you will be expected to work in the office for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership.
- If you live more than 50 miles from the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be remote. This means you will be expected to work from your home, within the continental US. If the role is remote, there may be occasions that you are requested to come to the office based on business need. Any requests to come to the office would be communicated with you in advance.

What does it take to be successful in this role?
- Knowledge of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) codes and regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SEC, and other federal regulations, Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP), state insurance department statutes, federal and other state regulations, with an emphasis on tax accounting and investments
- Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and financial systems user applications (SAP), and tax research services and software (Thompson Reuters Checkpoint and OneSource preferred), including input/output processing and complex system concepts, and the ability to understand and use computer systems and application tools for analysis
- Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office with intermediate Excel skills
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience performing moderately complex financial analysis and related valuation methodologies, systems, and quantitative business-based analysis, metrics, and experimental designs; ability to prepare statistical studies and trend analysis using internal and external information to demonstrate relevant changes and recommend improvements
- Basic Understanding of partnership taxation and flow-through entity reporting
- Exposure to investment vehicles such as limited partnerships, funds, or structured products
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related fternparield
- Two years of corporate-level tax accounting experience in an organization of comparable size
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Education & Experience Preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Designation
- Insurance, investment, or financial-services experience; public accounting background (Big 4 or natiaonal firms a plus)
- Exposure to partnership tax compliance (Forms 1065, Schedule K-1s, capital accounts)
- Demonstrated interest in finance or capital markets (e.g., progress toward CFA or similar credential)

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Researches investment tax technical issues, interprets and applies laws, regulations, and municipal ordinances; acts in an advisory capacity working with tax department management and/or designated representatives providing guidance and direction on and clarifying the interpretation of the investment tax accounting procedures, policies, and practices of the company and applicable regulatory authorities
- Assists with the compilation and calculation of investment deferred taxes pursuant to ASC740, FAS 109 and SSAP 101; applies GAAP, STAT and income tax accounting principles to analysis of financial transactions for accurate reporting in financial statements
- Acts as a resource to other departments with respect to Investment tax accounting issues
- Collects, organizes, analyzes, and evaluates moderately complex investment tax financial data and other related information; completes quantitative and qualitative reviews, and prepares required internal and external investment tax records, reports, statistics, financial statements, analysis, stockholder reports, etc.; develops and presents conclusions to management; participates on project teams or committees assisting with the development and implementation of tax department goals and objectives aimed at enhancing customer service, process improvement, and resource management
- Identifies and resolves investment tax accounting and financial transaction discrepancies and provides detailed explanations for variances between actual and planned investment activities; ensures necessary general ledger account corrections are completed; maintains complete and accurate regulatory filings; assists with developing, analyzing, and implementing investment tax accounting procedures in a systems environment in conformance with GAAP, SSAP, federal, state, and local regulatory standards; assists with audits and evaluations of systems’ and procedures’ effectiveness, and confirms the consistent application of accounting pronouncements and policies
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with business partners and with federal, state and municipal agencies; stays abreast of current investment tax trends and regulatory investment tax changes in the industry; assists senior team members in developing and implementing new applications and analytical models or enhancing existing systems
- Assists with partnership tax compliance activities, including review of externally prepared Forms 1065 and Schedule K-1s, coordination of tax data colletion and retrieval from third-party systems, and organization and distribution of information to external prepares
- Performs other duties as required
Total Rewards
The salary range for this job is $65,000 - $ 90,000. This range is specific to the job and salary offers consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.
At Aflac, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role to allow for future and continued salary growth, and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
