Job Summary

 

Located in Washington D.C., supports effective engagement for Aflac with respect to U.S. and global regulatory development, U.S.-Japan relations and developments in international trade, national security and relevant other geopolitical risks. Manages projects and production of analytical reports and analysis of public policy issues. Supports external engagement as a part of Aflac International’s public policy team.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

 

• Works closely with the Vice President, International Affairs in representing Aflac in Washington, D.C. and internationally to ensure effective engagement with respect to U.S. and global regulatory developments, U.S.-Japan relations and developments in international trade, national security and other relevant geopolitical risks.

• Coordinates with the Aflac International public policy team in Washington, D.C. and Tokyo, helping to manage operations and team projects in support of public policy engagement, including meeting and event planning.

• Manages production of analytical reports and analysis of public policy issues on tight deadlines.

• Extends staff support to the organization's senior executives. • Provides bilingual support for communication and liaison support with Aflac Japan and Aflac International Tokyo public policy teams.

• Coordinates with other departments of Aflac to provide intellectual and logistical support for Aflac executives’ visits, including Aflac International/Aflac Incorporated/Aflac Japan executives’ visits to Washington, DC.

• Covers industry meetings and international policy events in Washington, D.C.

• Conducts Japanese-language research, including news gathering and monitoring of international developments.

• Translates documents from Japanese to English.

• Performs other duties as required.

 

Professional - Education & Experience

 

Qualification Level Education Degree Specification

Minimum Required Bachelor's Degree International studies, finance, or a related discipline Preferred Master's degree International studies, finance or a related discipline

 

Qualification Level Experience

Minimum Required Six years of professional job related work experience Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Job Knowledge & Skills

 

• Strong Japanese, JLPT N1 or equivalent

• Superior writing ability including translation experience

• Interest in public policy • An interest and demonstrated experience in project management and coordinating with a team

• Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills

• Strong Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills

• A positive, constructive attitude and determination to follow through
